The hectic lead up to the Christmas break is over and the special time between Christmas and New Year is here. It’s a rare opportunity to pause and reflect; and careers and aspirations are often top of the list.
So you’re thinking about a change, what can you do?
- Review your year: What have you loved and what would you love to get rid of? What have others said about you in formal reviews, and in thoughtful conversation?
- Engage with your loved ones: The support of family and friends is invaluable, and it is important to hear their perspectives.
- Be curious: many people want a change and are not sure what that is. Sometimes looking at job adverts helps. You are not starting with the intention of applying but rather aiming for clarity and direction towards future conversations and job search activity.
- Phone a friend: Take advantage of this time to reconnect with former colleagues, professional contacts, suppliers, and customers. Make these interactions personal, aiming for conversations, coffees, and collaborative opportunities. Strengthening your network can open doors to unforeseen career possibilities.
- Refresh your CV : Moving towards the New Year, review your cv and covering letter. Ensure they reflect your current skills, experiences, and aspirations. In particular, make sure that your Profile statement signposts the direction you wish to take and provides compelling reasons why you will succeed.
